You dress like this EVERY day? by temiel You dress like this EVERY day? by temiel
Tch, I told myself I'd never submit after 10:00 again because nobody but people already watching me will see it, but here goes anyway. :XD:

Okay... this started out as a really quick sketch intended as part of *solfieri's clothing meme. The last picture is your OC in your own outfit. And you know, I'm really a tremendous frump beyond all reason-- my normal wardrobe consists of t-shirt, jeans, and a sweatshirt over the tee. Clothes? Pshhh. :XD:

Sooooo, because *Dwenda asked for it, I did a quick stupid sketch of Farael in my normal outfit (even though he'd absolutely never be so casual-- even when he's "casual" he's never really casual =P), and as luck would have it, he looks much cuter in it than I do, so I decided to actually turn it into a picture. With Rian. Wearing my OTHER frump uniform, indulging in one of my other bad habits. :meow:

Please excuse the color vomit in the background (and also Rian's lazy lazy hair). I don't know what I was thinking during the whole process of making this, other than that for the "color scheme" I was thinking about *NuisanceBearEull's lovely picture of her character Lisa [link] , which has MUCH better colors than this.

Tl;dr: I dress like a bag lady, and now my characters are too. :icontarddanceplz:

PS, texture by `Princess-of-Shadows, brushes by ~green-eyed-butterfly.

Yay for cheap clothing :D! I'm such a cheapo.

Do the Farael's coat became with two holes at the back or he just cut it off? XD

Lol, you're the second person to say they look "more real"! :D

That's actually a really good question about Farael's clothing. All of his shirts, etc have two slits up the back so he can put them on over the wings, and each slit can be buttoned up under each wing so the whole thing is still one garment. ;) I can't believe I've put this much thought into this...

Y'know. My girl *comethime has made comments on several occasions about the time of day factoring in to how much her work is looked at. I never really noticed, probably because I'm not that impressed with my own work. Buuuuuuuut, I'm glad it turned out well for you. It's really a great piece.

LOL! Yes, I totally know what you're talking about! Normally I'm very down on contemporary fashion, especially casual contemporary fashion... but damn if they don't look inordinately cute. :XD:

And I hadn't really considered those brushes before, until I saw them in that Lisa picture by NuisanceBear that I linked in the artist's comment. They seem to work very well in giving whatever you're doing a sort of "modern" feel, which as I'm sure you've noticed I don't normally look for. ;) But they worked perfectly for this!

Any reason why you don't tend to do contemporary pics too much, out of interest? I'm guessing it's probably mostly due to your stories not being set in modern times...

I just have so little interest in the aesthetic of "now". Everything seems to be tailor-made to be fashionably spartan, and I have no interest in what's considered hip or trendy or stylish. I hate the sleekness trend that's so prevalent in contemporary design, I like my clothes elaborate and gigantic, but mostly (and this is the key point) I'm just enthralled by a romantic notion of a past that never existed. XD

Hmm, that's interesting - I definitely understand your viewpoint, although actually my main gripe with today's fashion aestehtic is how messy it is (rather than a sleekness trend). There are probably different trends in our respective countries! I actually hate a lot of modern fashion in the shops, partly because it looks bad on me (because I'm way too tall for it) but partly because the shapes are ugly and there's no tailoring. I suppose my interest in fashion and drawing modern fashion designs is inspired by modern fashion - but through a desire to "improve" it! So I guess it's similar to you, getting intrigued by a romanticised image. I do hear the being enthralled by a romantic notion of the past, too - back in 2005-6 all my stuff was "past/fantasy" clothes design, so it's a very pertinent and relatable feeling. /babble/ :XD:

Ach, no tailoring... yeah, that's my current gripe. Everything looks like a damn maternity dress! I'm pretty heavy but I do cinch in at the waist some, so on the very rare occasion when I decide to get dressed up, my figure is far more flattered by something tailored than one of these big circus tents everyone's wearing around, which just make me look like I'm puffy and pregnant.

What I do like seeing that have come back in style are those knee-high boots. I draw them on all my people already because they're hot'n'sexy, so I don't mind seeing them around (although to be frank, I can't wear them because I have huge feet and tree-trunk calves).

And yeah, I can definitely see the "improvement" desire in your work; you don't seem to work with too many designs that actually exist, even though it's very clearly inspired by what does (or has, at least). And I like it that way-- if you're going to make art, why stick with stuff that actually exists, anyway? XD

Maternity is the word! I call those tops the dreaded smocks. Like you, I like to actually show my waist, as mine is one of my nicer features, and I like to dress to flatter my shape also, but fashion seems determined that I shouldn't be able to do so. Consequentially I spend a LOT of time shopping around for odd little items that actually look decent.

And yeah, the knee high boots are deffo in - I really like those aesthetically, though I probably wouldn't wear them.

And yes, why draw clothes that actually exist? :XD: Having characters wearing ridiculously complicated and non-reality outfits is one of the artistic "inaccuracies" I can turn a blind eye to. ;)

Yes indeed! :D They're both rockin' the bag lady look. I was telling someone else that in Farael's case, I think the ability to look good in sweats is genetic, since both his parents used to wear stuff like that "back in the day" and they still managed to look fabulous. :XD:
