You might recognize Rose from the sketchdump I posted the other day, but this is the first finished picture I've done of her. She's one of the Vampire Dark Ages characters, who is... obviously not a vampire. What she is, is a ghoul. She's like a live-in servant who does stuff for Leland and Claris during the day while they're asleep. And it's a bit like having food in the pantry, since Claris gets to feed from her. (Leland prefers not to, though, since Rose's "arrangement" is technically just with Claris.)

This whole thing came about when Gregory and Rose, one of his more frequent subjects, were victims of an attack by a particularly vengeful Tzimisce. Those of you who know VtM know that 9 times out of 10, Tzimisce are BAD FREAKIN' NEWS, because they can literally mold skin and bone as if they were clay, which leads to all sorts of nastiness in the hands of someone who's not feeling very nice. Gregory, being a vampire, was able to take care of himself, but Rose, as a mortal, was left disfigured and blind beyond the ability of any human's skill to heal. Claris was able to feed her some of her own vampiric blood to give her the capacity to heal the damage, but in the process Rose was blood-bound to Claris and is now compelled to serve and obey her. Claris would rather not see it that way, but instead in terms of having a constant friend and companion to talk to and dress up and spoil. Fortunately for both of them, Rose very much enjoys this. :heart:

She has gorgeous coloring. She actually looks a little like a picture of Brigid I came across once: [link]

Ah, thank you! :D I think I've actually seen that picture of Brigid before, but I can't for the life of me remember where or when. The coloring for this was actually inspired a bit by Waterhouse and some of Rossetti's paintings of Fanny Cornforth, she very much needed an "earthy" look. If only because Claris is just such a ghost by comparison. ;)

I love Waterhouse :) Hahaha—I do that too; somehow I keep pairing all my dark-haired female characters with blond men, and vice versa :)

Ah, thank you! :D The downside of vampires is that you have to use a LOT of cool colors. I missed my warm ones! ;)

The dress that Rose is wearing looks really pretty. I especially like how the detailing turned out on her as well as her hair! :aww:

SHE WAS. :eyes: They never really... did much in the way that real people do much. See, when you're undead, you kind of lose interest in the smexins, because feeding is so nice (for both parties, even!). :XD: I imagine he probably fed on her a couple times at least. And it was good for both. :nod:
