I like the criminal aspects of his character, with the presumed dead and all - you've always got to have a character who is the thorn in the other character's side They are always entertaining and Malachi sounds as though he is too
He really is... whenever he cropped up in game there was always that sense of "YAY MALACHI!" coupled with "GRRR MALACHI..." ~Arthulin's created some great characters that get that reaction from me over the years he's been my primary GM
when i read in Rian's character sheet that she was from Boston, i was expecting this to be some historical novel, with real (as in human) characters and places. yet here we have Malachi, who looks a bit like a drow, and i'm a bit taken aback. oh well, i guess being surprised never hurt anyone. by the way, is "in actuality" really an expression? it sounds a bit grammatically incorrect to me
Weirdly enough, it's set in the future! Rian, Farael, and several other important characters are in fact Bostonian, because in this alternate-universe future, Boston became the capital of a pan-galactic coalition of worlds. The whole thing has an overall historical look, so you're not TOO far off... except that most of the action takes place on other planets and in space. If you ever saw the movie Treasure Planet, it's similar to that in feel.
It is a real expression, actually. [link] "In actuality" is covered under the second definition
thank you for explaining it. the truth is the fancy costumes, the pirate ships and the look of the characters made me think of an alternative history set in the past, not in the future. but... why Boston? (you can send me a link if there already is a work in your gallery explaining it)
Why? Because I'm living here! ~Arthulin and I originally started this up as a d20 Modern game, and we set it here for the fantastically shallow reason that I wanted to play a game set in an alternate-universe version of where I was living at the time. I had no idea it was going to become such a major project, so that's just how it happened. From a historical standpoint, Boston was such a major trade/port city back in the 18th and 19th centuries that it was actually referred to by more than one source as "the hub of the universe", so we thought it would be neat if it actually became that.
On a side note, in this same alternate universe, we destroyed Los Angeles and overran it with undead. At the time that all the Astral Arcana events are occurring, the area once known as LA is now The Necropolis.
good God, your imagination sure goes wild if given the opportunity thank you for explaining that to me, it's ever so interesting to read what people go through in order to come up with their original characters and the stories behind them.
His criminal charisma is undeniably intriguing I like him! I mean... I always fall for the bad guys of a story XD He seems really interesting :3 And he has long hair! I just love men with long hair... XD and his facial features are so intense. I think Malachi has got himself a new fan XD
Well, you're the original Javert fan, of COURSE you like a jerk!
As for Malachi, he's a scheming, self-interested bastard, but he seems to actually care about certain people (Rian, for one... there have been SEVERAL times when he could easily have let her get killed and it would've turned out easier for him, but he didn't). So I think there's some teeny kernel of nice in there somewhere
Och, who knows. I'm actually not counting on it, but possibly! After all, as Alan keeps reminding me, there are several things Malachi just hasn't done yet... including Rian. (Though they have kissed a bunch!)
