A Professional Arrangement

"Captain, if nothing else I want you to think of this as a thoroughly professional arrangement. You're a professional; I'm a professional; and since you're my primary patient, it's my duty to help you regain your health in whatever way you'll allow. I won't push you, but I do want you to know that I'm willing to avail myself for whatever you might need."

She looked him over, her skepticism evaporating. It was entirely possible that he was right, and she really was in need of comfort on a more physical level. It was true that she felt better now than she had in over a week. "Thanks, Dalton. I'll consider that. Not tonight. Maybe soon." Maybe soon indeed; the more she thought about it, the more the idea of totally uncomplicated intimacy appealed. "And... thanks for today, too."

"You're welcome. It was my pleasure, really. I was glad to see you being yourself again. But you should rest now, I think."

She sighed. "Yes, I think so." She shot him a mischievous smile. "Goodnight, Doctor. Perhaps I'll come by and see you tomorrow."

"I'd certainly like to see you in full spirits again, Captain. One thing before I retire, though..." He leaned in, taking her chin in hand gently, and kissed her, his lips plying hers open. The touch of his mouth on hers made her jaw tremble, and then he pulled back, leaving her lips wet and her face hot with eagerness. "Just needed to check your temperature."
